Abstract

This paper aims at clarifying and explaining the importance of teaching English
in some departments of our colleges .It explains the reasons for teaching English in
departments like computers ,mathematics ,physics ,biology ,Arabic….and the
advantages and effects of this teaching . I t intends to emphasize the importance of
having a specific plan to be followed in teaching in these departments if one wants to
get better results. The paper includes two sections. The first section illustrates the
importance of learning English for any person and shows the differences between
teaching English for specific and general purposes. The second section shows the
importance of depending a definite and organized plan to design a course for teaching
and to arrange its materials. A number of suggestions related to teaching English in
these departments are given to ensure making learning successful and beneficial.
