Journal of Al-qadisiya in arts and educational sciense, 2009, Volume 9, Issue 2, Pages 59-74

The research tried first to distinguish
between the style of metonymy and the
style of metaphor in the expression.
Tracking the foundation of old Arabs
rhetoric.
The research results that metaphor and
the metonymy are contrary antynoms ;
for metaphor stands and depends on similarity , while metonymy stands and
depends on close mental relation
between words and meaning.
The research tried to clarify samples of
Arabic metonymy , the research put an
example from Albahaa' Zuheir's
Poetry for each sample. then the
research referred and notified to some
sample which are not contained in his
poetry.
Then the research clarified the
integration between metonymy and
symbol in his poetry in some occasions .
But the existing of metonymy according
to statistical methods it comes as
follows:
1- Metonymy of adjective: (69%).
2- Metonymy of adjectival: (17%).
3- Metonymy of relativity: (14%).
This emphasizes the poet's use of
adjectives more than adjectivals , which
means that the poet was fond of him self
and thinks that he is more eligible than
the people whom he described in his
poetry.
We come out with that the poet was
close to (explicit) than metonymy
(implicit) according to the era which he
lived in , so that the style of Charitable
verbal comes more in his poetry , and
his metonymies were very simple and
uncomplicated.
